The other holy well near Holywell, Cornwall

I’ve visited – and blogged – about the magical cave in Holywell Bay, near Newquay, but only just found out about the other holy well on the edge of a golf course, on Trevornick Farm, near the village of Cubert. The well is pretty near to St. Cuthbert’s cave and holy well.

We visited it on a glorious sunny day in late May. Even with directions from two locals it was tricky to find, and really quite hard to believe when it revealed itself to us. Just on the other side were frustrated golfers, tourists with crying kids. We’d found a hidden paradise, so tranquil and beautiful it felt being there, surrounded by nature and the soft sounds of the spring (for film buffs out there, it felt like Wes Anderson meets Studio Ghibli).

We took off our shoes and socks, walked the marshy area, squeezed into the stone hut and sat on the stone seats and washed our feet with the clear, cold flowing water of the spring.
