Recent Oxfam Bookshop music Barngains
I still buy an alarming amount of books and music, most of it from Oxfam Books, Truro, Cornwall. Sometimes I just have to will a book or album into being and it will turn up in the shop. Eventually, everything I want turns up. Here’s a small selection of recent LP and CD barngains.
From top left: Al Green – Greatest Hits LP; Bob Dylan – Blonde on Blonde LP; John Surman – Upon Reflection LP; Jethro Tull – Stand Up LP (mainly for the pop-up gatefold); Maki Asakawa LP; UB40 – Signing Off LP; Dead Kennedys – Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables 2 CD set; Gene Clark – No Other CD (this was in my top 30 of 2019 but I never had it on CD); Gorky’s Zygotic Mynci – How I Long To Feel That Summer In My Heart CD; Harry Smith’s Anthology of American Folk Music Volume 4 CD I’ve had the first three volumes for some time; this volume, whilst not as coherent as previous volumes, perhaps, nevertheless contains many songs I know from Dylan, Springsteen and Ry Cooder cover versions so I love it. It also has a cool 96-page booklet; Jazz on Film: French New Wave Vol 3 Five-CD box set of seven jazz scores from French New Wave films, including Miles Davis’ Lift to the Scaffold and Martial Solal’s À Bout de Souffle. Wonderful; Espers – III CD Actually their fourth album. Anyway, I love it.
